New Gold DreamSimple Minds always captured our souls and made us feel good when listening to their smooth silky themes like “Somebody Up There Likes You” from the 1982 album New Gold Dream. The music is somewhere in between new age and pop music but landed on the end of alternative. We had a nice run of SM spanning five years or so in the early to mid 80’s but it is still in my blood now especially when throwing on the LP New Gold Dream and chilling out to SUTLY, Hunter And The Hunted, New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84) and Big Sleep just to name a few.

It’s rare thing for a band be around for 20 years like the Smashing P’s. On their anniversary tour when such longevity should have been celebrated by playing the music that made it possible, instead they chose to torture their fans with the “new stuff.”  Otherwise Billy’s voice was great as was the sound and light show. Plus it looked like the keyboard player was hot. Oh, and the theater was great place to see a show. Take a look:  http://www.theunitedpalace.com/slideshow1.htm

Anyway, check out this video of what another fan thought of the show the night before:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIyac1BhDZA
